ISThmus 2000 Conference "Research and Development for the Information Society" April 11-13, 2000, Poznan, Poland FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
Welcome to our source of information. The ISThmus 2000 (Research and Development for the Information Society) and EUNIS 2000 (Towards Virtual Universities) conferences are organized in conjunction with the International Fair of Electronics, Telecommunication and Computer Engineering (INFOSYSTEM 2000) in Poznan, Poland. These conferences aim to provide a forum for presentations, which will act as a medium for exchanging new ideas at the highest technical level. The ISThmus 2000 has its origin in the POLMAN conference, which has been organized in Poznan every year since 1994. POLMAN was a national conference devoted to metropolitan and national area networks. However, on the threshold of next millenium in which the Information Society will play a main role, there is a need for a conference that would serve as a bridge between these two epochs. ISThmus 2000 opens the series of this conference. The organizers also hope that the conference will serve as a solid bridge between Poland and other European countries working on applications, technologies and services for the Information Society. The ISThmus 2000 conference focuses on new and evolving environments, such as optical backbone networks, high speed access networks, multimedia network services as well as such daily life disciplines as electronic commerce, teleworking, television on demand etc. On the third day of the conference a block of different parallel workshops will be organized. The workshops will close the ISThmus 2000 conference, but the same day the EUNIS 2000 conference starts. The 6th EUNIS Congress 2000 is the continuation of a well-known European University Information Systems conference. This year the conference is devoted to Virtual Universities. EUNIS is the European University Information Systems Organisation. Its membership is open, through national associations, to those responsible for the management and development of information systems in higher education in Europe. EUNIS 2000 follows EUNIS 95 in Düsseldorf, Germany, EUNIS 96 in Manchaster, United Kingdom, EUNIS 97 in Grenoble, France, EUNIS 98 in Prague, Czech Republic and EUNIS 99 in Helsinki, Finland. The main goals of Eunis 2000 are to encourage communications between information systems providers in higher education in Europe, especially those who are working on technologies for virtual universities and to undertake discussions and representation with suppliers of information systems products for Virtual Universities. The ISThmus/EUNIS Exhibition joins the conferences together by presenting fields and activities - technologies, services and applications - they have in common. Both conferences and exhibition are organised by the Institute of Computer Science - Poznan University of Technology and Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Centre during the International Fair of Electronics, Telecommunications and Computer Engineering - INFOSYSTEM 2000 and will be held in the fair area of Poznan International Fair.
VENUE The ISThmus 2000 Conference and the EUNIS 2000 Congress will be held in the fair area of Poznan International Fair, Poznan, Glogowska Street 14 pavillion 23, Level C.
